| | I first heard about Hakone Gardens from my mother’s interest in 1985. She became involved with Saratoga Sister City’s trips to Japan and their support of Hakone. Both my mother and I fell in love with the unusual beauty of Japanese gardens as well as Japanese culture/architecture. When I was elected to the City Council in 1998, I became involved in establishing the Hakone Foundation to promote Hakone Gardens’ survival, quality maintenance and development. | |
