Pruning of the Laceleaf Maple   with Margie Potts
This lecture will cover the use of tree in landscape design, care and culture, tools for pruning, pruning demonstrations, and the yearly pruning calendar. Includes a slide show of Laceleaf Maple cultivars.

Pruning Trees for Strength and Beauty   with Peter Quintanilla
The beauty of Japanese gardens owes much to their stately mature trees. To attain such grace and age, they must withstand occasional windstorms. Structural pruning when trees are young together with detail pruning, create the aesthetic form, for which Japanese Garden trees are known. Learn the principles and specific pruning techniques to train young trees for strength and beauty.

Peter Quintanilla, a Certified Arborist and UC master Gardener, works with Barrie E. Coate and Associates (Horticultural Consultants & Consulting Arborists).

The Arts and Crafts Revolution or How Japan Helped Save Us from the Victorians   with Vincent McMullen
In the mid 1800's wealthy industrialists lived in ornate opulence, while their workers lived in cheaply built row houses and tenements. Soulless mass produced goods reigned, while craftsmanship fell into decline. This class will trace a series of events and key individuals that reversed this trend, also showcasing how Japanese arts and crafts inspired these men and women to rethink the home environment.

The Art of the Wisteria   with Pete Churgel
This class will cover the biology and differences of the Asian and American Wisterias. We will then cover how to select the ones best for your needs and how to grow and train them to different styles. We will then learn to prune and maintain them, including some common problem solving. Lecture, slides and demonstration materials.
