Join us Friday, September 11, from 5:30–8:30 PM for Echoes of Nature, featuring renowned taiko artist Kenny Endo with Abe Lagrimas Jr. and Jay Lai. Set within Hakone’s historic Japanese garden, this special performance explores the connection between music and the natural world, from the powerful resonance of taiko to the rhythms, movement, and stillness of the garden. Proceeds directly support the renovation of Hakone’s 109-year-old koi pond.

Brilliant color, intricate detail, and centuries of craftsmanship come together in Shippō-yaki, the Japanese art of cloisonné. Delicate metal wires are carefully shaped to create intricate designs, then filled with layers of colored enamel to produce luminous, jewel-like works of art.
More than a decorative craft, Shippō-yaki reflects extraordinary precision, patience, and artistry. Experience the beauty of this remarkable Japanese tradition up close at Hakone and discover the craftsmanship hidden within every detail.

Inspired by Hokusai's The Great Wave, UMI by Bay Area artist Chris Sicat explores the history of Prussian Blue and the international exchange of ideas that influenced Japanese art. Through immersive paintings and installation, Sicat's work reflects on the movement of materials, artistic traditions, and the enduring connection between art and nature.
Hakone Estate and Gardens is one of the oldest residential style Japanese gardens open to the public in the Western Hemisphere. First established as a private summer retreat in 1915, today Hakone is a treasured sanctuary connecting visitors of all ages with nature, culture, and history as they explore the tranquil beauty of our 18-acre grounds.
Stroll around Hakone's iconic hill and koi pond garden to immerse in a living museum of traditional Japanese landscaping, while surrounded by historic buildings authentically crafted in Japan over 100 years ago. Along with rotating art exhibits in our Cultural Exchange Center, Hakone hosts a variety of cultural events throughout the year, and is a premiere venue for private event rentals.
