Designed for small groups, each workshop offers the opportunity to learn directly in the garden, develop practical skills, and gain a deeper understanding of Japanese garden design, construction, and care.

Bamboo Fence Building Workshop
October 10–11, 2026 | 9:00 AM–5:00 PM
Spend two immersive days working alongside Jacob to build a traditional Kenninji-gaki bamboo fence at Hakone. Participants will learn bamboo preparation, fence-building techniques, traditional knot tying, and more while contributing to the continued care of Hakone’s landscape.

JACOB KELLNER has led Hakone Foundation's Garden Department since 2008, with over 20 years of experience as a Japanese landscape craftsman. Jacob is passionate about sharing his expertise and commitment to the community to help preserve the practice of authentic Japanese landscape techniques at Hakone Estate and Gardens.
